Prior to healing, I didn’t want to have anything to do with foster care, after healing I can’t imagine now being a part of foster care. Why? Because what breaks us can lead to our breakthrough.”

Meet Our Honorees

Every year we give a few incredible kids in foster care with the Resilience Award. This award serves as a way to acknowledge all these kids have been through, and come out stronger on the other side. Meet our 2024 Resilience Honorees below.

Abel

19-year-old Abel was introduced to Foster Angels through our Toys for Teens drive where we were able to sponsor him and his siblings with a very special holiday! Since then, he has been adopted alongside three of his siblings and is heading into his sophomore year of college. He embodies resilience not only through his perseverance with his experiences in foster care, but also pushes himself physically. This year he ran a half marathon with his mentor, and is currently training for a triathlon.

Barbara

18-year-old Barbara came into foster care when she was just eight years old and has since lived in over 28 different homes. Today, she is starting college at Texas State University with a desire to study Social Work. Ultimately, Barabara’s goal is to help make the system better for the next generation of kids with similar cirucumstances she grew up with.

Astrid

Astrid is one of our Bright Angel Scholars whose determination to achieve great things is inspirational to all who come across her. She is studying Exercise and Sports Science at Texas State University, and is the President of the Foster Care Alumni organization on campus. Astrid shows her resilience in meeting everyone she meets with grace and love in spite of the challenges she has endured throughout her life.
