Interested in volunteering your time, talents, or treasures to benefit local foster children?

Foster Angels is always in need of gift cards from various local retailers and stores.  These gift cards are given to the children directly, allowing them to shop for their very own new clothing, shoes, beds, food, and personal belongings.  You can help by contacting local businesses asking for donations in the form of gift cards.  We will take any denomination, including gift cards that are partially used.  The most requested vendors are Walmart, Target, Ross, JC Penney, Payless Shoes, HEB, IKEA, and Citi Trends.   This gift card program is by far our biggest area of need and allows us to continue filling requests for children of all ages in foster care.

How about putting together special gift boxes for children in care? This is a great opportunity to directly impact a child’s life and brighten their spirits. Volunteers can shop for items for the children, assemble and decorate the boxes, and write personal letters of encouragement to the children. Foster Angels is happy to reimburse volunteers for any costs, or you may donate and receive a tax receipt. This is a great activity for church groups, volunteer organizations, or individuals. (This is a Summer Volunteer opportunity)

The holidays typically intensify feelings of sadness, loneliness, and uncertainty for foster children. In 2013, Foster Angels will make a big impact in the lives of 24 hand-selected youth in foster care who especially need our help. Volunteers can shop for the items on their wishlists and wrap the gifts.  All volunteer work for the Christmas drive will be completed by December 15th. Visit our post under the News and Events page for more information.

Going back to school can be stressful if you do not have the means to be prepared.  To ensure that each foster child has the necessary school supplies, during the months of July and August we ask volunteers to shop for backpacks and to fill them with grade appropriate school supplies.  Appropriate school supplies lists can be found at many major stores like Walmart and Target as well as the Austin Independent School Districts website.

Already hosting a fabulous party or just have the urge to have friends over for a good cause? Make Foster Angels the beneficiary and help foster children!  Ask your guests to bring one $25 gift card for each member of their family attending the party.  These cards will be given directly to foster children, allowing them to shop for themselves – a giant self-esteem booster.  Gift cards are needed from places like Walmart, Target, HEB and Ross.  We also accept VISA gift cards.  Foster Angels is happy to provide you with brochures and other materials so you can give them to your guests.

Would you rather help out behind the scenes? Foster Angels could always use your help with website development, writing a piece in the newsletter, hosting or helping to organize a fundraising event.

Thank you for your support and generosity! Please contact Tania (tania@fosterangelsctx.org or 512.732.2329) about any of the opportunities listed above.
