In 1999, Ted Oakley created a foundation in South Texas to address the growing need to give assistance to foster children. Over a decade later, his daughter, Sarah Oakley Smith, began teaching in low-income schools and volunteered in various organizations where she saw the need to bring a Foster Angels to Austin, Texas. They explored the idea and started Foster Angels of Central Texas in the spring of 2010.
Sarah and Ted expected to help 50-100 children their first year in Austin, but instead gave assistance to almost 500. With a fantastic board and community support, Foster Angels has now helped over 10,500 children in foster care in Central Texas.
